Sub Products

If you have products that are similar, such as a deluxe model with options that a base model may not have, you can create ‘sub-products.’ These sub-products are then displayed to shoppers when they view the main or another sub-product.

Once you have created a product you can create products that are derivatives of the product in question. (i.e. a green shirt with different logos) To do so enter the details page of the product in question. First change the SKU and name of the product to reflect the difference, then click the ‘Copy as sub-product of this product’ button, shown below.

The next step is to edit the new sub-product to properly reflect it’s settings. To do so, follow section 4.2.8 using your new product. When you edit this new product you will see the following check box replace the sub-product button on the product editing screens. The checkbox is used if you want the item to appear in your catalog listing or whether it should only be available to those shoppers who are viewing the main or master product.

The default is to allow this product to be listed in you catalog, if you wish to change this simply uncheck the check box. Your product will no longer be available to browsing shoppers. Only those viewing the master product will have access to this new sub-product.
